Raised Beds on Wheels for a Deck or Patio
A raised bed on wheels lets you garden at a comfortable height and roll your plants toward the sun, out of the wind, or out of the way when guests come. Below are three rolling beds and what the sellers' own pages say, checked on October 22, 2026. We haven't tested these, and we don't invent ratings or reviews. Prices change often, so check the page before you buy.
The slim, lighter option
Gardener's Supply's Demeter Mobile Planter Cart is a narrow powder-coated steel planter with a handle, PVC wheels 5.75" across, and a shelf underneath. Its page lists an overall size of 45.5" L x 14.25" W x 32" H (including wheels and handle), a planting area of 39.25" x 10" x 8" deep, a soil capacity of 50 quarts, and a weight of 20 lbs. It was $174.99 when we checked, needs assembly, and the page says it can't ship to AK, HI, AE, GU, PR or VI.
Worth knowing: an 8" depth suits herbs, flowers and leafy greens better than deep-rooted crops, and a 10" wide box is easy to reach across.
A wood-look bed that won't rot
The Sustainable Rolling Patio Garden, also from Gardener's Supply, is made from a composite of recycled plastic and reclaimed sawdust with aluminum legs and corners, and rolling casters on the legs. The page lists 39.5" L x 16.5" W x 34.5" H, a 9.5" planting depth, 93 quarts of soil capacity, a weight of 43.5 lbs, a fabric liner included, and assembly required. It was $399.99 when we checked, and the page showed a "quantity selected exceeds current stock" notice, so availability may be limited. It can't ship to AE, AK, GU, HI or PR.
A self-watering bed with a shelf
Vego Garden's Self-Watering Elevated Rolling Garden Bed with Handle is a metal bed with a handle on each end, a shelf underneath (listed as 2' x 41.5", with 14.5" of open space below the bed), and 4" wheels with rubberized rims. The bottom uses what Vego calls a wicking cell: extra water collects in a tray below and the roots draw on it, which the page says means you can water less often. It showed a sale price of $369.95 in Modern Gray when we checked.
One thing to double-check: the page gives two different heights. The description says it stands 39" tall, while the highlights list a 35" total height. The description also mentions locking wheels. If height matters to you, ask Vego before ordering.
How to choose
- Working height: these run from about 32" to 39" on their pages. Stand at your kitchen counter; a similar height is a useful comparison.
- Weight to roll: the empty weights listed range from 20 lbs to 43.5 lbs, and damp soil adds a lot more. Plan to fill it where it will mostly stay.
- Brakes: on a sloped deck, wheels that lock keep the bed from drifting.
- Watering: a self-watering bottom can mean fewer trips with the watering can.
- Your deck: if you're unsure how much weight your deck or balcony can hold, check with your building manager or a contractor.
